2022-06-18 Sat

Two years after a gold Great Barrier Reef 100 Dollars coin with the same design, same weight, and same diameter but with a different denomination of 2 Dollars.

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world, comprising more than 3,000 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching over an area of approximately 133,000 square miles. The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in the warm, tropical waters of northeast Australia.

The reverse of the coin depicts a copper band butterfly fish, a clownfish, and coral representative of the beauty of Australia's underwater world. As a special feature, a real saltwater pearl was integrated into the motive. The design also features the inscription: “GREAT BARRIER REEF” – the name of the coin.

The obverse depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “Elizabeth II” – the name of the Queen, “Niue 2022” – the country and the year of issue, “2 Dollars” – the face value, and “1 oz 999 silver” – the weight of the coin and the fineness of the Silver.
